Net wealth: what would the billion-forint threshold mean?

The threshold would relate to calculated net wealth, not the price of one property or a company’s turnover.

Based on the supplied draft. The rules described have not been verified as effective law; the final provisions may change.

Three separate questions

First identify the assets within scope based on residence (sections 2–4), then calculate their values (sections 10–23), and deduct debts qualifying under section 6. Only then can net wealth be compared with HUF 1 billion.

Why a gross total is insufficient

Ownership shares, property rights, marital arrangements and documented debts could change the relevant amount. The same economic value could not be counted twice. HUF 1 billion would not be an allowance for each individual asset.

Practical next step

Organise assets by owner, legal basis, location and valuation source. Flag uncertain items separately: a missing record or valuation does not mean a zero value.

Frequently asked questions

Would the billion-forint threshold apply to gross wealth?

Section 6 would deduct qualifying substantiated debts from calculated asset values; net wealth above HUF 1 billion would form the tax base.

Would each asset receive a separate billion-forint allowance?

No. The threshold would apply to qualifying net wealth, not separately to every asset.
